WOODWIND, BRASS AND RECORDER

It is the responsibility of competitors and teachers to follow the Rules & Regulations of the Festival. Entries are the responsibility of competitors and teachers. Errors or omissions are not the responsibility of the Festival.

All disciplines run at the discretion of the Festival, dependent on sufficient entries.

Additional rules pertaining to Woodwinds,Brass and Recorder

1. Photocopied music may not be used in the Penticton Kiwanis Music Festival without the written permission of the copyright holder (composer or publisher).

2. Da Capo signs should be observed. Repeat signs should ordinarily be ignored but at the discretion of the teacher and student may be observed where deemed appropriate.

3. Use current R.C.M. Syllabus or equivalent as a guideline.

4. Each competitor shall compete at the same grade level in all solo classes entered.

5. Each competitor is responsible for providing their own accompanist.

6. Non-competitive classes are listed at the end of the Woodwind and Brass section.

7. Classes will be further subdivided in consideration of age when necessary.

8. Please state instrument on entry form.

Competitive Classes
All competitors will be given an adjudication and a mark for each performance and will be eligible for appropriate certificates, cups, awards and/or scholarships.
Non-competitive Classes
All competitors will be given an adjudication only.
Open Level
A student studying full time at a recognized institution or who has obtained a degree or diploma in music.

ENTRY FEES:

Solo Classes $ 15.00
Duet with Advance Accompaniment $15.00
Sight Reading $ 15.00 School Recorder Class $30.00
Duet, trio, quartet or ensemble classes $8.00 per person Bands, Groups larger than 8 players $40.00
Family duet, trio, quartet or ensemble $15.00 per family  

 

WOODWIND,BRASS AND RECORDERS CATEGORIES
Sight reading is required for scholarships

Additional Repertoire: This class is to be used only for pieces which do not fit in any other category, or for a second piece in a category already entered. One selection, own choice.

Baroque/Classical: Any composition by a Baroque or a Classical composer.

Romantic: Any composition by a Romantic composer.

Twentieth & Twenty-First Century: Any composition by a twentieth century composer.

Canadian: Any composition by a recognized Canadian composer.

Sonata: Two contrasting movements of any standard Sonata.

Concerto: Two contrasting movements of any standard Concerto. Orchestral part to be played on piano.

Duet: Use one entry form per duet, with both players’ names and instruments, accompanied by full entry fee. If the two competitors are at a difference grade level they shall compete at the higher grade level.

Duet with Advanced Accompaniment: (i.e., teacher, parent) Only the lower grade participant is to register. The lower grade registrant must play the first part. Only the lower grade registrant will be adjudicated. Use one entry form with only the name and grade level of this person.

Trio, Quartet, Small Ensemble (3 to 8 players) time limit 15 minutes. May include piano.

Bands, Groups larger than 8 players: time limit 20 minutes.

Sight Reading: Music of an appropriate level will be supplied by the adjudicator. Competitor can take several minutes to study the music before playing.

Please enter the above categories by Grade level: Pre-Grade 1, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, ARCT or equivalent, or Open. Please specify instrument on entry form.


NON COMPETITIVE WOODWIND, BRASS AND RECORDER

Non-competitive performances will receive an adjudication only. These classes will only take place once the competitive section is completed and Provincial Representatives and Award WInners have been selected. Family duet, trio, quartet or ensembles may include piano.
